The first Samoan language university in American Samoa, organized by the Society for Indigenous Education in American Samoa, is set to begin classes in January 2006.

The university official, Dr Salu Hunkin is quoted by the Samoa News as saying that the university, AMOSA o Savavau, won't be accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, which accredits the American Samoa Community College and the local high schools.

The school will be offering Certificates to those who complete the five to six week pilot courses in Philosophy, Economics, Education and the Samoan Language.

Scholars have been invited from Samoa.
