A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Jilin Province of China and the Autonomous Bougainville Region of Papua New Guinea for international trade purposes.

The Post Courier reports that it was signed during the China Agricultural Trade Fair during a recent visit by a Bougainville delegation.

Bougainville President Joseph Kabui endorsed the understanding and says the Bougainville Executive Council has directed its administration to ensure all commitments made on behalf of both governments were followed up.

He says the administration was directed to liaise with the private sector on the establishment of a Bougainville international business council.

Mr Kabui says they have start tapping on international opportunities on creating international trade links for the private sector.

His government's ultimate aim is to ask the PNG Government to consider a trade officer in China as a move towards implementing the agreement between the people of China and Bougainville.
