Solomon's Auditor worried about lack of accountability in use of constituency funds

The Solomon Islands Auditor General, Augustine Fatai, has raised concerns about the lack of accountability in the use of the constitutency development fund.

Mr Fatai says at present, there are no proper checks on how the funds are being used by parliamentarians.

He says the old system, which requires the auditor to check and officially account for the funds, was thrown out when the legislation governing the funds was amended.

Each parliamentarian is allocated 35,000 US dollars to use for his or her constituency.
