Figures revealed in the Solomon Islands parliament show that the national government spent more than two and a half million US dollars on travel expenses for Parliamentarians and public servants over the past four years.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation says the figures were released by the minister for Finance and Treasury Peter Boyers when he answered a questioned raised by the MP for West Honiara Yukio Sato.

Almost three quarters of the money was spent on members of Parliament and the balance paid for travel by public servants.
