Fiji' prime minister says some current and former members of the Labour Party and the National Federation Party have applied to contest the next general elections under the banner of his ruling SDL party.

Laisenia Qarase has told Radio Legend that these applications are now being assessed before the final decision is made.

He says it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few months.

Mr Qarase says the SDL will contest all 71 seats in the House of Representatives in the next elections, which are due in the second half of next year.
