Pacific Forum gets increased funding from New Zealand

2:07 pm on 16 December 2005

The New Zealand Government is giving nearly three million US dollars to support programmes run by the Pacific Islands Forum.

The secretaary General of the Forum,, Greg Urwin, says the funding agreement is a reflection of New Zealand's long standing commitment to development in the region.

The money includes New Zealand's member country contribution to the Forum's regular budget - it meets about one third of the operating costs of the organisation.

Most of the funding will be used by the Forum to improve trade, health and education, coordinate aid support, and the maintenance of law and order in island countries.
