Kiribati government officials are in consultation with the International Organisation for Migration, the IOM, and the Pacific Islands Forum on arrangements for the repatriation of over 200 families from Nauru.

The repatriation, which also involves several hundred Tuvaluans, and is being funded by Taiwan, is due to begin next month.

But Kiribati's Foreign Affairs secretary, Taam Biribo has told PACNEWS that there are a few logistical issues that need to be sorted out before the process starts.

IOM is to supervise the repatriation process which will involve more than a thousand people.

The Nauru Finance Minister David Adeang says the funds from Taiwan, nearly four million US dollars, will be remitted to the Tuvaluan and Kiribati governments, who will then be responsible for the payment of their nationals on Nauru.

Mr Biribo says the repatriation will be voluntary.

He says, he understands that some have been offered work with the revitalised phosphate company and he says they can stay if they want.
