Pacific Islands to get videophone technology

The telecommunications giant Ericsson, is to provide technology to some Pacific countries never before seen in their part of the world.

Ericsson is to introduce the first 3G network in Fiji and also been selected to provide broadband internet services to Tonga.

The service means Tongan and Fijian residents will have high-speed internet access and all the benefits of a 3G network, including being able to download

videoclips to their mobile phones.

Ericsson New Zealand general manager Steve Inglis says it's an exciting development that will drive industry growth in the Pacific region.
