Air Tahiti Nui's flights from French Polynesia to Australia have been on average more than half-full, since they began in July.

The news agency Tahitipresse reports flights from Sydney to Papeete are about 65 per cent full, and 46 per cent full in the other direction.

Direct flights between New York and Papeete, also launched in July, are only 27 per cent full on average.

The airline is considering launching a third weekly flight between Australia and Tahiti from March.

It's also looking at launching a Paris-New York service to bring more European tourists to Tahiti.
