The US Environmental Protection Agency has fined Tri Marine International for the improper disposal of a tuna skiff in American Samoa waters.

In May 2003, the company scuttled the tuna skiff without proper notification according to the Marine Protection, Research and Sanctuaries Act.

The EPA said ocean disposal regulations ensure a vessel is properly disposed of to protect the marine environment.

Tri Marine has 30 days to pay the US$5,000 fine.
