French Polynesian finance minister resigns

10:17 am on 6 January 2006

The French Polynesian finance minister, Emile Vanfasse, has resigned, and has been replaced by the vice-president, Jacky Drollet.

The announcement was made in a news conference yesterday by the president Oscar Temaru.

Mr Vanfasse had been under fire for his lack of training in economics, and during the recent budget session.

The ruling coalition has embarked on a controversial fiscal reform programme.
