Taiwan to help resurrect Air Nauru

9:29 am on 20 January 2006

Nauru is suggesting Taiwan has agreed to bail out the country's failed state airline.

The Nauru civil aviation minister, Dr Kieren Keke, says Taiwan agreed to give support at a meeting last week in the capital Taipei.

Dr Keke said these discussions would lead to the restoration of normal air services.

Until an agreement is finalised in the next few weeks, Air Nauru says it will continue to organise replacement services using planes chartered from regional airlines.

The United States EXIM bank won repossession of Air Nauru's only plane, a Boeing 737, last month, after it launched court action over unpaid loan repayments.
