A board of inquiry appointed by the Fiji military has begun investigating the sacked former Land Force Commander, Lt Col Jone Baledrokadroka, for his alleged role in trying to oust the commander, Commodore Bainimarama.

Radio Fiji reports that the military spokesman, Captain Neumi Leweni, has confirmed that the tribunal would look into events that brought matters to a head at the main military camp in Suva two weeks ago.

Captain Leweni says the board will investigate whether Col Baledrokadroka had tried to incite a mutiny to overthrow Commodore Bainimarama.

The board will also investigate the allegiance of certain senior officers some of whom are believed to have been sympathetic towards Col Baledrokadroka.

Col. Baledrokadroka had reportedly objected to Commodore Bainimarama's threat to take over the government if it continued with certain of its policies.

Captain Leweni could not confirm the time frame of the investigation the outcome of which will determine whether Col. Baledrokadroka will face a court martial.
