A politician and two former senior Fiji military officers are likely to be charged soon in relation to their alleged plan to kidnap the military commander, Commodore Bainimarama, at the height of the May 2000 coup.
Radio Legend says the rebels allegedly planned to kidnap Commodore Bainimarama at Nadi International Airport when he returned from abroad a few days after George Speight's gunmen seized parliament and took the government hostage.
The kidnap plan was foiled by troops of the Third Fiji Infantry Battalion led by Lt Col Viliame Seruvakula, who diverted Commodore's Bainimarama's party through an alternative route.
The military spokesman, Captain Neumi Leweni, says the plot was uncovered in an investigation conducted by military officers together with police.
Captain Leweni says the investigation will be completed in the near future and all those involved will face the law.
Police are expected to lay charges following the recommendation forwarded by the investigation team.
