Papua New Guinea's prime minister, Sir Michael Somare, has paid tribute to the Australian man who composed PNG's national song.
Tom Shacklady died in Sydney on Wednesday aged 88.
Sir Michael said in a statement that the former PNG police bandmaster was a legend.
He says Tom Shacklady will be remembered with pride for a very long time, as long as every school child stands in the morning assembly to sing the national song.
Shacklady served with the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary from 1964 to 1982.
