The Fiji president, Ratu Josefa Iloilo's last visit to the Middle East to visit Fijian troops on peacekeeping duties there has been cancelled.
President Iloilo had been scheduled to leave today.
But Fiji TV reports that the visit was cancelled because of heightened tensions following the victory of the Islamist militant group promoting suicide bombings in Israel, Hamas, in the Palestinian general election.
The president's official secretary, Rupeni Nacewa, has confirmed the cancellation.
President Iloilo is due to leave office next month at the end of his current term.
