The Northern Marianas is reportedly running out of funds needed to finish a new dialysis treatment centre on Saipan.
The newspaper, the Saipan Tribune, reports the acting governor, Timothy Villagomez as saying they will ask the legislature for extra money.
Mr Villagomez says the construction is now 70 per cent complete.
The project was originally budgeted at US$11 million dollars but its contract, awarded under the last governor, cost about US$5 million.
The number of patients at the existing dialysis treatment centre has doubled in the last decade, forcing more people to be sent out of the country for treatment.
