Fiji's Public Service Commission has appointed an independent team to investigate allegations against a senior government official that he incited a military officer to attempt to oust the military commander last month.

Radio Legend reports that Commodore Bainimarama has made the allegation against the chief executive of the home affairs ministry, Lesi Korovavala, and wants him removed from the job.

The chairman of the PSC, Stuart Hugget, is quoted as saying they have determined the terms of reference for the inquiry and appointed the people in the team.

Mr Hugget says the team will determine the truth or otherwise of the allegations after summoning Mr Korovavala to answer to them.

Mr Korovavala has refused to appear before or make a statement to the military board of inquiry, which is looking into an alleged attempted mutiny.

The former Land Force Commander Lt Col Jone Baledrokadroka is alleged to have tried to overthrow the commander and Mr Korovavala is said to have incited him to do it.
