Vanuatu's Deputy Prime Minister has urged the Public Works Department to ensure that funds from donor agencies are spread wisely and put to good use to assist rural development.

The Daily Post reports that Sato Kilman made the comments during the recent official opening of the new PWD headquarters at Malekula.

Mr Kilman, the Malekula MP, who's also Vanuatu's Foreign Minister, acknowledges that there are limited resources and inadequate funding from the Government budget to carry out maintenance work on the roads and infrastructure.

But, he has urged the authorities responsible to ensure that new facilities and equipment funded by the European Union are not only utilised on the main roads but also used to try and link isolated areas.
