The Electoral Boundaries Commission has recommended the creation of 26 new open electorates in Papua New Guinea.
The Postcourier reports it has urged Parliament to sort out the future of provincial seats as the countdown begins to the 2007 general elections.
Provisions in the Organic Law on that enabled the existence of provincial seats will be removed after the return of the writs.
Electoral Commissioner and Electoral Boundaries Commission chairman Andrew Trawen says the new electorates - pending Parliament approval - will result in the country having 115 Open electorates.
Mr Trawen says each province is proposed to get at least one new open electorate to compensate for the disappearance of the provincial electorates.
