Underwater filming has begun in American Samoa at the Fagatele Bay National Marine Sanctuary for a documentary series.

The film is co-produced by a company said to be owned by the son of the renowned environmentalist Jacques Costeau.

Jean Michel Cousteau's son, Fabien and his daughter Celine are part of an eight member film crew.

A member of the team, Dr. Richard Murphy explained the educational value of the documentary project.

"We've created a programme called sustainable reefs, so where we have a programme, we're then working with the local community, in this case particularly the sanctuary to make some resources available to enhance their public awareness effort."
