Main opposition party in Samoa seeking funds in Australia and New Zealand

Members of the Samoa Democratic United Party fundraising committee are heading to Australia and New Zealand.

The Samoa Observer newspaper reports that the committee has split into two teams with one going to Australia and the other going to New Zealand for a week-long fundraising trip.

The SDUP held a fundraising dance in American Samoa two weeks ago which raised more than US$50,000.

The party leader Le Mamea Ropati who was in Pago Pago for the fundraiser said that more people would have attended and more funds raised had the weather been fine.

The SDUP is the main challenger to the Human Rights Protection Party of prime minister Tuilaepa Sailele in a a general election on the 31st of March local time.
