The Public Servants Association in Tonga is reportedly threatening to go on strike over a cabinet decision to reduce the size of the public service.
The Association's president, Dr 'Aivi Puloka, has told the news website Matangi Tonga that the planned cutbacks would breach the memorandum of understanding signed between public servants and the government last year.
The PSA is giving the government until July to pay the money that's still owed from the salary rises of betwenn 60 and 80 per cent - agreed to, after the strike last year.
The PSA is strongly opposing the government's move to offer a redundancy package because it thinks there are other unspecified options.
