Latest appeal by Pitcairn Island sex abuse convicts turned down

Six men from Pitcairn Island have lost the latest appeal against their sexual abuse convictions.

The men were convicted in 2004 of rape and indecent assaults against mostly under-age girls over several decades.

Their latest challenge was heard by the Pitcairn Court of Appeal, sitting in Auckland last month.

The men's lawyers told the court islanders did not know English law applied to them.

But this morning the Court said it was satisfied the argument had not been made and it dismissed the appeal.
