French Polynesia bans French poultry over birdflu fears

French Polynesia has banned the importation of poultry from France in its fight against birdflu.

The authorities in Papeete have decided that all fresh and frozen poultry products are to stopped unless they have been sterilised.

The ban is not expected to have a big impact for consumers as only a small part of Tahiti's poultry is imported from France.

The French broadcaster, RFO, says a similar ban on poultry imports has been announced by the French Indian Ocean territory of Mayotte.
