Heavy rain in New Caledonia has caused disruptions in many parts of the main island, cutting roads and forcing schools to close.
In the very south of the territory, the rain has halted some work on the Goro nickel project.
The downpour has caused construction sites to lose sediment which flowed into a river delta in the Bay of Prony.
The erosion has prompted the company, Goro Nickel, to suspend part of the project to build better protection against flooding.
The head of Goro Nickel, Ron Renton, says the company wants to minimise the project's impact on the environment.
