Fiji's military commander says a purported bank for indigenous Fijians shows how gullible indigenous Fijian people can be.
Radio Fiji reports that Commodore Bainimarama was commenting on the scheme to set up a bank for indigenous Fijians.
An elusive organisation calling itself the Office for International Treasury Control is purportedly offering US$3.5 billion.
Its self-styled Chief of Cabinet, a Dr Keith Scott, made the offer at a meeting of 215 middle level chiefs known as the BOSE NI TURAGA who met last week for the first time since the Speight coup.
Commodore Bainimarama has described the purported bank plans as rubbish.
He says the meeting venue of the BOSE NI TURAGA last week was full of people who were in parliament during the 2000 coup to support Speight.
Commodore Bainimarama says the same group of people filled up the parliament grounds with villagers and told them that what was being done to overthrow the government was correct in law.
He says they were being misled by church ministers in whom they believed.
Commodore Bainimarama says indigenous Fijian people continue to be ill-advised and it is up to the educated ones to advise them of the directions they should take.
