There are plans to create an advisory panel to integrate science and technology into sustainable development efforts in the Pacific region.

Science and technology is essential to all sectors of the economy and also services sectors such as health, education, energy, communication and environmental protection.

In March 2005 the UN Secretary-General announced plans to create a

high-level advisory panel to help integrate science and technology more into the development efforts of UN member organisations.

The Pacific Islands Biotechnology Working Group, of which the SPC is a member of, is meeting in Fiji shortly to support the development of a regional policy for science and technology.
