The Malaita Oil Palm Development Taskforce is holding a meeting today in Solomon Islands to discuss land issues.

Representatives from the government will attend the meeting in the Malaita provincial capital Auki.

Already 3,000 hectares of land has been recorded by the Taskforce's registration team for two areas in the province.

The next stage will be land acquisition and land registration of the designated areas for oil palm development.

The caretaker Minister for the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, Enele Kwanairara, said the development of the oil palm industry remains a priority for the government.

The government has been in talks with interested foreign investors from Malaysia.
