New Zealand says it will give Samoa almost a quarter of a million US dollars over three years to support sport.

The announcement was made jointly by the Sport and Recreation Minister, Trevor Mallard, and the foreign minister, Winston Peters who has just visited Apia.

Mr Mallard says the aim is to exchange expertise to allow the development of coaches, athletes and administrators, both in schools and in the wider community in Samoa.

Last week, Sport and Recreation New Zealand officials met their counterparts in Samoa's Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture to shape the project.
