Indonesian police say they are holding 12 people as suspects after a series of clashes in Papua province during protests to demand the closure of a US gold mine.
Hundreds of protesters demanding the closure of the mine operated by a subsidiary of US mining giant Freeport McMoRan clashed with security forces in Abepura, just east of the regional capital Jayapura
Five people were killed in the confrontation, including three paramilitary police.
Police say the suspects will face various charges, including inciting enmity against the government in public, violence causing death or injury and illegal possession of weapons.
