The former ruling party in Solomon Islands says it will abolish several departments within government if it heads the government after next month's general election.
The caretake prime minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, who's also the leader of the People's Alliance Party, says it would be part of plans to adopt the federal system of government in the country.
He told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that the idea is to establish 9 new departments to cover all 9 provinces and replace those which would be abolished.
Sir Allan says such an arrangement would expand the capacity of the provinces so people in the central government would go down to the provinces.
He named the departments of Fisheries, provincial government and constituency development, peace and reconciliation, agriculture and livestock, home affairs and public service as among the ones which will be abolished.
