The Fiji Labour Party is threatening imminent legal action to delay the coming general elections.
Radio Legend reports that the party is about to file a writ in the High Court against the Elections Office for not complying with the Electoral Act.
The Labour Party lawyer, Anand Singh, says they are using three sections of the Electoral Act as 42 days must be given for the final voter rolls to be published and viewed by the public before polling commences.
Mr Singh says the final rolls are not out yet and the 42 days must be given for people to raise objections to the rolls to ensure their names are included.
He says this time line is laid down in the law but if the final rolls are published later this week, they will not comply with the mandatory provisions of the Electoral Act.
Mr Singh says this non-compliance will make it very difficult for the elections to proceed on the dates that have been declared
