New call in French Polynesia to boost autonomy line

3:09 pm on 24 March 2006

There has been another call in French Polynesia for politicians favouring the territory's autonomy within France to unite.

Jean-Christophe Bouissou of the new Rautahi Party says the territory's president, Oscar Temaru, is trying to destroy ties with France by misrepresenting reality on his trips abroad.

Mr Bouissou says discussions are needed.

"We are going to start talking together on how we can deal with the fact that Mr Temaru today is using his position as president of the French Polynesian government to go outside to talk about getting the country into independence."
