The Tongan noble, Lasike, will appear in the Supreme Court in six weeks time on charges of rape after the Police Magistrate decided there was a case to be heard.

Lasike, who appeared before Police Magistrate Peau Pifeleti last week, is charged with the rape of a 25-year-old woman in 2005 at the Sandyboyz Motel in central Nuku'alofa.

The accused is a shareholder of the motel and the victim was a receptionist at the time.

The lawyer for Lasike, Clive Edwards, had argued there was not sufficent evidence for a case to be heard.
