Political future of two of Fiji's ministers to be decided next week

The political future of Fiji's Home Affairs minister, Josefa Vosanibola, and the Public Enterprises Minister, Jonetani Galuinadi, will be determined next week.

The two have missed out on preliminary rounds of the SDL's pre-selection process but are still competing to be on a final list of 20 candidates which is expected to be announced shortly.

The SDL's national director, Jale Baba, says even if they don't make that list, it's the party's board which makes the final decision on who will stand as candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

Mr Baba says this is not a convenient way of being able to dump Mr Vosanibola, who's been at the centre of a row between the government and the military in the past year.

"We're not looking at their performance in cabinet or as cabinet ministers during the selection process. I mean, if he adds value to the lineup more than other people, the board will be likely to take that into consideration."

Mr Baba could not give a guarantee that Mr Vosanibola will be selected by the board.
