The Governor for Papua New Guinea's Enga province Peter Ipatas will step down from office today.
Mr Ipatas faces a leadership tribunal over allegations of misconduct in office.
His deputy Councillor Peter Iggy will take over the role.
It is not known yet if Mr Iggy will sit on the board of various organisations in his new role, such as the Enga Future Generations Fund and Mineral Resources Enga.
The Ombudsman Commission had referred Mr Ipatas to the Public Prosecutor on Oct 11, 2004 for allegedly breaching the Leadership Code.
