4:26 pm on 4 April 2006

The French overseas territories minister, Francois Baroin, has left Tahiti after a four-day official visit to French Polynesia.

He met key leaders and visited most main archipelagos before flying to Auckland.

He is due to meet New Zealand ministers in Wellington later today and during his two-day stay sign a tripartite fishing surveillance agreement that also involves Australia.

Mr Baroin will also be signing an arrangement between Niue, New Zealand and France for the building of a new government administration building in Niue.

He is also expected to extend a formal invitation the New Zealand prime minister, Helen Clark, to Paris in June for a summit with other Pacific leaders and the French President, Jacques Chirac.
