American Samoa bank expands

10:49 am on 4 April 2006

A financial institution in American Samoa is taking banking services to neighborhoods on the main island of Tutuila.

ANZ Amerika Samoa Bank has launched two mobile banking trailers to be stationed at specified locations on the island.

Bank President and CEO Gary Ayre says the new service is a continuation of ANZ banks 'banking the un-banked' concept which was first initiated in Fiji about 18 months ago.

Mr Ayre says the two canneries, which employ 5-thousand people, is the major focus of this service and management of Samoa Packing and StarKist Samoa are supportive of the venture.

He says with the vans, banking service can also be made available at places where there are large gatherings, festivities or conferences.

The mobile units will handle only individual consumer banking needs but not commercial clients.
