Talks in Fiji for a second mobile phone company

11:28 am on 6 April 2006

Talks have taken place in Fiji for a second mobile phone company to enter the market.

Fiji TV reports that Digitel from Jamaica wants to set up a mobile telephone service using satellites.

This follows a High Court ruling last month throwing out an attempt by Vodaphone Fiji to hold on to its monopoly.

The Fiji government has not given any response to the talks yet.

But Digitel has recently secured mobile phone licences in Samoa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
