Fiji's military commander says the country has become a deceitful and corrupt society and evil has found its way into the country's biggest religious body - the Methodist Church.
The Fiji Sun reports that Commodore Bainimarama made the comment after the Methodist Church threatened to defrock chaplains promoting the military's truth and justice campaign.
The church has warned it would replace such defrocked chaplain with those who took their orders from the church.
But Commodore Bainimarama says evil has entered the church because it has allowed politically motivated members to disrupt the work of chaplains involved in truth and justice.
Commodore Bainimarama says chaplains are ranked soldiers in the army and have a chain of command to follow once under its jurisdiction.
He says chaplains are required to fight for truth and justice and to threaten to defrock them for the personal agendas of a few shows how corrupt and deceitful society has become.
Commodore Bainimarama says it has all been done before when the same talatala, or church preachers, endorsed George Speight in 2000.
The Methodist Church general secretary, the Reverend Ame Tugaue, says the military should not use its chaplains in the truth and justice exercise because it has political implications.
