Hundreds of candidates planning to contest next month's Fiji general elections have filed their nomi

Hundreds of candidates planning to contest next month's Fiji general elections are filing their nomination papers today.

The major political parties like the SDL and Labour will be nominating large numbers of candidates to fill the 71 seats in the House of Representatives.

The smaller regional parties, which are in coalition with the major parties, will be nominating fewer candidates while there are many independents and two coalitions of independents.

The candidacy of one election hopeful, Sosefo Inoke, who was planning to stand for Rotuma, remains in doubt as he has been stranded on the island since last week because of the cancellation of two scheduled domestic flights.

Nominations have to be filed with the returning officers who are based on the two islands in Fiji.

The Elections Office will announce the names of all candidates who have filed their nominations at the end of the day today and people wishing to rise any objections o any of them will have all day tomorrow to do so.

Voting will take place arly next month.
