Access into the oil and gas project areas of Papua New Guinea's Southern Highlands has been blocked by angry landowners.
The Post Courier newspaper reports that people in Poroma sub-district dug a huge drain across the road on Monday preventing trucks reaching Kutubu and other oil and gas fields.
The paper quotes a police officer dispatched to the scene as saying local people took the action to force the government to improve the road which has been in a poor state for many years.
At least ten supply trucks bound for the oil fields are said to be stranded in Mendi waiting for authorities to deal with the situation.
