Australia gives Tonga speed boat for border patrol

Tonga's Customs Department will be given a 5.8 metre speed-boat, designed for border patrol by the Australian government.

The boat, worth over 72,000 US dollars will be used in the surveillance of the Vava'u waterways.

The boat will be officially handed over by the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Alexander Downer, to the Tongan Minister of Finance, Siosiua 'Utoikamanu, on April the 21st whrn Mr Downer is in Tonga on an official visit.

The Deputy Head of the Tongan Customs, Tonga Finau, says there is a great need for the surveillance boat in Vava'u which lacks the proper port of entry facilities.
