The head of the Papua Baptist Church says two survivors of a boating accident where 20 Papuans were reportedly lost at sea have been snatched from hospital by Indonesian security forces.

Socratez Sofyan Yoman says the ship containing asylum seekers went down last Thursday about a kilometre from Papua's provincial capital Jayapura.

The Reverend Yoman says of the three Papuans who survived the accident, a 30-year old died in hospital in Jayapura while the other two, who are male students aged 30 and 40 years old, were taken away by Indonesian security officers without consulting hospital staff.

He says that when the three Papuans were taken to hospital, the security forces imposed a tight 24-hour guard on them.

Medical staff were apparently unable to treat the patients because they were under threat and terrorised by the security personnel.
