Fiji police will deploy more than 1,400 officers to provide security for the country's general elections which begin at the end of next week.
The Sunday Times reports that police revealed the security arrangements as a bomb threat was made against the Elections Office in Suva which resulted in its shut down for there hours on Friday night.
The newspaper says police evacuated all electoral officials and staff members after a male voice made the bomb threat in a telephone call.
Members of the Police Tactical Response Unit and bomb disposal experts swept the building before declaring it safe when work resumed.
The director of police uniform operations, Jahir Khan, says all leave for police has been cancelled until a new government is sworn in after the elections.
Mr Khan says a team from the Tactical Response Unit will be stationed in each of the four electoral divisions to handle any emergencies that might arise.
Meanwhile, Fiji's military says it will be closely monitoring the election process and will be ready to provide any assistance to the police should it be required.
