Vanuatu's Foreign Minister, Sato Kilman, says he believes Snyder Rini's decision to resign as Solomon Islands Prime Minister is the best thing for the country.
Mr Kilman says last week's rioting in Honiara has taken the country backwards.
He says as a fellow Melanesian state, Vanuatu is willing to assist Solomon Islands where ever possible as the country rebuilds.
Mr Kilman says Vanuatu hopes the man who replaces Mr Rini as Prime Minister will have the backing of the people.
"I am sure that the decision he took, according to him, would be the best thing for the Solomon Islands. Whoever goes up there will only be as good as the people who support him. If he has the backing of the parliament, the cabinet, then I think his job should be easy. But if he doesn't, then we will probably continue to see something like this going on."
