American Samoan man arrested following a drug find

An American Samoan man, who has been under police surveillance for possible drug crime has been arrested by police.

The Samoa News said the man in his thirties was arrested yesterday at a store in connection with methamphetamine found by police at his home in Leone village.

"Va'a Sunia, head of the police's Criminal Intelligence Investigation Bureau (CIIB) , told the newspaper that the meth found was a substantial amount."

He says officers also found drug paraphernalia and "some cash" but declined to provide details.

Va'a Sunia says police need the community's help to eliminate the drug problem on the island.

The man is currently being detained at the Territorial Correctional Facility while the police and the Attorney General's Office complete its investigation.
