New Caledonia suspends production at public broadcaster RFO

A month-long strike by some unionised workers at New Caledonia's public broadcaster, RFO, has prompted its management to suspend all production until tomorrow.

The strike was triggered in March by the sacking of a Kanak technician who was convicted for assault during a 100-day strike at RFO in 2004.

Media reports say intermittent disruptions worsened late last week when the non-striking workers, faced by racial slurs and abuse, said they could take no more.

They issued a statement wondering why the French state remained indifferent and asked for the authorities to intervene so that work can resume.
