Solomons minister says corruption not only government issue

7:53 pm on 3 May 2006

The caretaker Solomon Islands finance minister, Peter Boyers, says corruption is not something that can simply be pinned on the government.

But Mr Boyers says government processes need to be made more transparent..

He says as a member of the previous government, he started repairing the damage and tackling corruption.

Mr Boyers says he started reforming the Customs exemption committee process and put a stop to the export tax remissions on round log exports.

His predecessor, Snyder Rini, granted many remissions but lost the finance portfolio one week after RAMSI arrived in Honiara in 2003.
